Of all though, Chevys 1955 1957 Shoebox models rank at the top of the list. While some prefer the more flamboyant 1956 and 1957 Chevy models, its hard to beat the near-perfection of the smooth and subtle 1955 designs. Blessed with outstanding styling cues that combine seamlessly into a beautifully integrated total package, the 1955 Chevrolet remains one of the finest and most successful automobile designs ever created. A complete line-up of coupes, sedans, convertibles, and station wagons was offered along three trim levels from the plain 150 to the 210 and top-of-the-line Bel Air. Best of all, in addition to their all-new styling, the 55 Chevrolets had plenty of substance to back up the sizzle with the first application of Chevrolets all-new small-block V-8 engine. An instant legend, the new 265 cubic-inch unit measured 265 cubic inches and it was compact, efficient, lightweight, and designed with future development in mind. From the beginning, customizers, drag racers, and hot rodders adopted the new Chevy in all its forms. Easy to maintain, modify, and repair, the 55 Chevy could best be described as the modern equivalent of Fords prewar Deuce. A mainstay of the hotly contested Junior Stock and Gasser classes of the 1950s through the 1970s and well beyond, 55 Chevys continue to provide the perfect basis for hot street machines ranging from early 70s-style Street Freaks and Low Riders, all the way up to race-inspired Pro Street form and virtually everything in between. Movie use cemented the '55 Chevy legend, including Two-Lane Blacktop and American Graffiti" Featuring custom paint with red and orange flames outside and underhood, this cool 55 Chevy was built to perform with a hot 383 stroker matched to a 4-speed manual transmission. Built less than 500 miles ago, the 383 features the best components including a forged Eagle crankshaft, ARP main studs, SRP pistons with Sealed Power rings, and SCAT connecting rods, and Clevite rod bearings, plus a Competition camshaft, roller lifters, and aluminum rockers. Edelbrock Performer Aluminum cylinder heads, an Edelbrock 750-CFM carburetor, and jet-coated headers help the wicked small-block breathe deeply. Colorful upholstery matching the flamed paint job on the outside, bucket seats, a custom steering wheel, and power brakes round out the Chevys many upgrades. Rolling on a set of steel wheels with chrome rims and baby moon hubcaps, this tasty '55 Bel Air custom is simply a great combination of classic good looks and performance tweaks!
